Welcome to Clophill & District Flower ClubWelcome to Clophill & District Flower Club. We are affiliated to NAFAS – The National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies – and we are keen to promote creativity with flowers. We are a group of mainly amateur flower arrangers who meet on the first Thursday of the month (except August) in Clophill Village Hall. Doors open at 6.45pm for 7.30pm start and visitors are very welcome at any of the meetings. Our demonstrator will create approximately 6 arrangements whilst giving an informative and/or humorous talk, these will be raffled at the end of the demonstration. Raffle tickets are on sale as well as a sales table of basic floristry sundry items. So if you have a love of flowers or a keen interest in flower gardening and want to be inspired by a professional arranger, just come along or get in touch with us via the contact page for more details.
Why not become a member? Subscriptions and Visitors fees are reviewed at the AGM in January each year. Since 2020 the annual subscription has been £38, however, it was agreed by the committee to raise this to £45 for 2023 which was formally adopted at our AGM in January 2023. The committee will be prepared to accept the new subscription in staged payments over three months if this is helpful for members. The subscription will allow you to come to most of the events in our diary for no additional payment - even the refreshments are included! It’s excellent value and an entertaining night out – just come along or get in touch with us via the contact form if you’d like more information. Visitors fees will also be increased to £7 per meeting, except at an Open Meeting in May and December when different charges are made. Clophill & District Flower Club was formed in 1976 by a group of ladies who wanted to share their love of flowers and we celebrated our Ruby anniversary in 2016 along with our past Chairmen. We had to postpone our Sapphire anniversary in 2021 due to the Covid pandemic restrictions but we celebrated 45 + 1 years of our Club with members in June 2022 with a cold supper on a lovely summer's evening. Members of our flower club come from the various villages within our part of Central Bedfordshire and currently we have a membership of over 80 with ages ranging from early-thirties well into retirement age! In our membership we now have 2 gentlemen so please do not assume a flower club only appeals to ladies - all are welcome. As you will see from our 2023 Programme the majority of the demonstrators coming to our Club this year are men too! Our Charities Each year a short list of local charities are nominated by the committee and Members are asked to vote for their choice at the February meeting. At our monthly meetings we have a table of pre-loved items for sale donated by members and each year we are able to donate in the region of £500-£1000 to our chosen Charity. The members voted last March meeting that our 2022 Charity would be the Central Bedfordshire Women's Refuge which provides a safe place for women and children to recover from trauma and rebuild their lives. There will be a collection box on the charity stall for those who wish to donate but not necessarily buy from the stall and we hope, as always, we can make a significant donation to this local good cause. At our AGM it was formally agreed that we are donating £700 to this local refuge and our cheque was handed over to their representatives at our February meeting. Having held a poll of members at our February meeting choosing from a shortlist compiled by the committee, it has been decided that our local charity for 2023 will be NOAH Enterprise. Based in Luton NOAH has been working for more than 30 years to help the homeless and disadvantaged across Bedfordshire to improve their lives.
