14 April 2021To all my friends at Clophill & District Flower Club - April Newsletter The Spring flowers look beautiful in my pots and garden and the buds are opening on the shrubs, acers and trees but oh dear the frosts in the past week have really affected my magnolia and the new bracts on my big Pieris. The birds are nesting in the boxes and we watch them on a box camera – very exciting. We have had a disaster in the pond as a cat has taken 14 fish (caught on camera) and left poor Billy, a big Koi carp, on his own. Poor Billy no mates! We will have to get some more to keep him company! Exciting news. Once again Linda O’Toole has excelled herself and created a fantastic Spring Bonnet for the Chairman’s Challenge that was entered on behalf of our Club and selected by our Area for the National competition. I am thrilled to tell you that she has been awarded 3rd Prize and this is her design. She is a very talented designer with her unique style using dried plant material in a very artistic way. All the prize winners are on the National website - www.nafas.org.uk I hope you have managed to check the NAFAS website for details of :- The National Virtual Competition that started on 1st April with 3 weeks of demonstrations, talks and workshops, followed by the pictures and results of the 12 competition classes. It is free and on YouTube so you just need to register. All the details are on www.nafas.org.uk Resilience and Spring Back Floral Art Demonstration by Gill McGregor details on Gill’s website. National Flower Arranging Day 7th May. This is to inform others of our love of flowers and to encourage them to come to a Flower Club – especially ours! Members are asked to make a design to hang on a door, gate, wall or post or to go in a window to be seen by neighbours and those passing your house. I am attaching a leaflet that perhaps you would put with you arrangement to advertise NAFAS and our Club. Home Counties Area Virtual Spring Competition ‘ The Joy of Spring’ I am attaching the details for the next competition. Please have a go – just for fun! The Summer edition of The Flower Arranger magazine has now been delivered and sent to all members who have ordered it. Thank you to our CFAO who has posted them to you. There are lots of designs and ideas in there but one article that I loved was a poem on Flower Club Blues. Have a look in the NAFAS News. The plan is still to have an Afternoon Tea in the Summer so that we can all get together again but I am waiting to be able to have a Committee Meeting to make the final arrangements. Watch this space! I hope you have been able to have your vaccinations and feel the reassurance of more protection. Keep well, safe and enjoying all the exciting things in your gardens and on your walks. I hope to see you soon With my very best wishes,
Carolyn Chairman of Clophill & District Flower Club
