2 July 2021To all my friends at Clophill & District Flower Club - June/July 2021 Newsletter Where does the time go? I expect you have been thinking that I had forgotten you! In fact I had been waiting for Boris to make a decision and for the members of the Committee to agree on the way forward and when we should have our Sapphire Celebration. We had hoped to be free of restrictions and for everyone to feel more confident about mixing with a large group of people. We had planned to have an Afternoon Tea in August but unfortunately we feel it would be safer for all to defer it to 2nd September. This will be our Club Meeting so we will make it a social evening with a buffet (if we are allowed) with entertainment and flowers by members. I am sorry but I expect some of you will be relieved and others disappointed. Area News In the meantime some Area news. Last Tuesday The Flower Arranger magazine held a photo-shoot in Home Counties Area at the lovely home of Audrey Balderstone, our Area Chairman. There were 8 designers chosen including 3 from our club – Ann Swain, Linda O’Toole and Doug Howard. I was very proud of all of them and in total 18 designs were created and photographed in different settings. The theme was Christmas, ready for the Winter edition 2021. This had been planned for November 2020 but it was postponed. Audrey had decorated her home and then kept her Christmas tree beautifully decorated, garland down the stairs, Christmas cards and other ornaments all in place since then! I am not sure if she is now leaving them up as we are half way to next Christmas!! Chloe, the Editor of The Flower Arranger, will now select what looks best and I am keeping my fingers crossed our three will be in the magazine. If you would like a copy of this special edition please order it via the Contact box on this website by Friday 13th August and it will be delivered in October. It will be £3.20 and you can pay on collection. See below details of the Area Summer Competition – ‘Garden Delights’. So when you are in your garden in the next few weeks I hope you will be inspired to pick some plant materials and create a design. Entries need to be in by 17th July National NAFAS News I expect you remember I told you that it had been decided to sell the NAFAS Headquarters in Central London to raise the money to sustain the National organisation. The property has now been cleared and is on the market with an estimated value in excess of £4million. They will then decide what to do next and where NAFAS will be based. The pandemic has changed the way meetings and business is conducted and many events will remain on-line. Thankfully, our Area and Club are secure and we will continue to organise flowery events for our members. I hope to see you in September on a lovely warm evening. With my very best wishes, Carolyn Chairman of Clophill and District Flower Club ************************************************ Home Counties Area of NAFAS Our Summer Competition Another opportunity to inspire your creativity We are holding another on-line flower arranging competition for members of Home Counties.
