Demonstrator:  Gill McGregor
Her Title: As Autumn Approaches

In September the Club welcomed Gill McGregor on a return visit with a demonstration entitled 'As Autumn Approaches'

A traditional natural design using a Yew log vertically standing with a mixture of foliage, Tree Ivy, Laurel and Yew to enhance the base.  Slender yellow Gladiolus (note: tips tend to bend towards the light so remove them), small ginger Chrysanthemums placed low at the base, larger Chrysanthemums, yellow tinged ginger and large orange Roses.  A metal wrought Heron completed the scene.  A beautiful design to begin the evening.

Gill's second arrangement contained central sprays of flowing Bear Grass with Fatzia and Tree ivy added to cover the base, interspersed with light coloured Privet, Teasels and Crocosmia, Achillea and Physalis (Chinese Lanterns) to give a natural Autumn garden.

The third design again was completely different, with a background panel in purple with copper wire roses created by Gill.  The addition of a handmade container filled with a selection of foliage, Fatzia and Palm leaves cut for shape, slender purple Gladiolus and copper Canna Lilies reflected the wire roses.

A simple basket arrangement followed, with light coloured straw incorporating sisal place mats for interest.  A plaited Palm Leaf, a selection of Palm and Beech, ears of corn, autumn coloured Gerbera and Orange Leucospermum.

Gill enjoys browsing Pound Shops and the like, and so the last design incorporated some of these items.  A very contemporary container created by her.  Architectural foliage was needed to add drama.  Dracaena leaves, Garrya  Elliptica and sprays of Elderberry foliage, white Gladiolus were centrally placed, with large Avalanche Roses and bunches of Gypsophilia at the base.

The final design was on a tall white container, with Palms of Dracaena, cut and terraced for display and large Monstera leaves for shape.  Red Anthuriums were the focal point.  There were six beautiful and unusual arrangements to be won in the Raffle, for six lucky winners.

The Club’s next meeting is on 6th October at 6.45pm for a 7.30pm start, at Clophill Village Hall.    The demonstrator is Theresa Rodrigues, with the title Celebration in Malaysia.  You are most welcome to join us.
