National Demonstrator: Margaret Rumens
Her Title: "Bloomin' Wonderful"

The demonstration in May was ‘Bloomin’ Wonderful’ , given by Margaret Rumans from Solihull. She captivated the large audience with her interpretations of all the ‘bloomin’ wonderful things in our country and natural world, creating six large designs that filled the stage and members with wonder.

Margaret began with A Walk in a bluebell wood in Spring, using blue delphiniums, twigs and bluebells NB. Only use cultivated bluebells as it is illegal to pick them in the wild.  This arrangement was contrasted with her next interpretation of a bloomin’ wonderful sunset. There were three horizontal designs in red and orange that glowed and radiated.  The third creation was inspired by architectural spires of churches or tall trees as it was two hanging arrangements mounted on a tall obelisk to represent the spires.  Between each design Margaret played some music that reflected her idea and enhance the imagination. She chose Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield that went high and low – like a graphic graph of sounds.
We have a bloomin’ wonderful heritage and past so Margaret chose to interpret this with two very structural designs using strelitzia and sunflowers and told us about exploring ancient burial mounds in Shetlands.  We are so lucky to live in such ‘a green and pleasant land’ and Margaret celebrated this with a traditional arrangement all in green, both foliage and flowers and Louis Armstrong singing ‘What a Wonderful World’.  The final design was a huge pedestal to illustrate our stately homes and gardens, using a wide selection of summer garden plant material.

We had a very entertaining evening and 14 lucky winners had a beautiful arrangement to take home, although some had a struggle to get them in the car.
It has been a busy month or Clophill and District flower Club. We arranged flowers for a big charity ball in Luton on a theme of Gin and Tonic. We are having our usual plant stall at the Church Fete. The following weekend we are arranging the flowers for the wedding of local girl at Hexton Manor.

We are holding some Flower Arranging Classes for beginners and the More Experienced starting on 15th June at the Methodist church. We welcome new students – further details contact Carolyn 01462 815433.
