Demonstrator: Jackie Watson Her Title: Movies from The Mansion
Our March meeting had to be cancelled because of heavy snow so we were very pleased when 5th April was sunny and cheerful after all the rain and dull wet days.
Over 70 members and visitors attended the demonstration by Jackie Watson from Iver Heath whose intriguing title was “Movies from the Mansion”.The “mansion” in the title was Heatherden Hall, bought by Charles Boot in 1934 who turned it into a luxury hotel. He also wanted to make films so he built film sets and offices in the grounds.Arthur Rank joined him and during WWII, some propaganda films were made there but after the War, it became Pinewood Studios.
One of the first films made was “The Red Shoes” with Moira Shearer whose red tutu was depicted by sprays of alstromerias and anthuriums. Then we saw one of the James Bond films made at Pinewood Studios - “Goldfinger” using greenery sprayed gold and golden yellow roses and spray chrysanthemums. Next came two of the many “Carry on” films made at Pinewood Studios – “Carry on Cleo” and “Carry on up the Jungle”.Both of these used exotic flowers such as strelitzia, orchids and gerbera.
Her final film was “The Slipper and the Rose” depicted in grey foliage and cerise and pink orchids, gerbera and roses.
As she worked Jackie gave us a resumé of all the films. It was an evening of beautiful colourful arrangements that reminded us of films we had enjoyed many years ago.
Next month, on 3rd May, we welcome National Demonstrator Patricia Dibben with her title "Stepping Forward - Glancing Back". This is followed by “Magic Moments” by Lorraine Saunders on 7th June and “Pick ‘n’ Mix” by Lionel Clark on 5th July.We hope to see you at any of these meetings. Visitors are always welcome. at all of our meetings. Please look at examples of our floral creations on the “Celebration Flowers” tab on this site and find further information about the Club.
