Demonstrator: Jane Ellis Her title: 'Remember, Remember'
Our November meeting fell on Bonfire Night and we certainly saw plenty of sparklers during the 'Remember, Remember' demonstration given by Jan Ellis. Jane, who is a NAFAS Area Demonstrators' representative for the Home Counties Area, covered all sorts of things we remember during our lives, including Guy Fawkes and Remembrance Day.
During the evening Jane, who trains up-and-coming flower arrangers ready for their test to become an Area Demonstrator, gave us an insight into what is involved. During their test, demonstrators have 20 minutes to prepare two different arrangements all the while talking about the attributes of flower arranging. Not only that, they also have to identify using the Latin names at least 10 types of plant material they've used. No mean task, methinks!
Back to the arrangements, and Jane told us her very first memory was of her little tricycle with a boot on the back in which she used to transport her teddy bears. To remind us of this she added a colourful autumnal arrangement of beech leaves in golds, oranges and browns along with apricot gladioli to a little wicker tricycle.
Her final design - of course - was to depict fireworks. It was a fabulous arrangement with a large alium seed head and tall stems of white feathery cow parsley flowers that really brought to mind a shower of sparkle. Other pin points of colour were included using some amazing re/orange/yellow tinged roses which were fireworks in themselves.
