Demonstrator: Lesley Sturdy Her Title: 'The Changing Year'
Snatching triumph from disaster at our 6th April meeting was Lesley Sturdy, a stalwart of our club and of NAFAS, who stepped in at very short notice when our advertised demonstrator was taken ill.Lesley has trained and judged demonstrators for many years and is much respected for her expertise and advice on matters floral. We were privileged to enjoy a preview of a programme which Lesley had prepared for another event; this was entitled The Changing Year. This took us on a whistle-stop tour through the seasons of the year from midsummer, through autumn, winter, early spring and back to our current season of approaching summer.
Lesley’s designs beautifully illustrated the drama and colour of the seasons with the hot orange gerberas, bright lilies, and cymbidium orchids of a tropical summer, followed by gentle bronze and rust gold chrysanthemums of autumn, then snowy white and cream “Avalanche” roses, white carnations and a sprinkling of gypsophila for a wintery effect; some pussy willow, muscari (grape hyacinth), chinadoxa, daffodils and deep purple heather heralded spring.
Finally, an elegant three placement stand with arrangements of lilac freesia, pink tulips, white viburnum tinus and spray carnations swept us gracefully into the lovely early English summer season to complete the evening’s programme.
Our next event on 4th May will be our annual OPEN EVENING with National Demonstrator Margaret Rumens’ “Bloomin Wonderful”. If you would like tickets for the evening, please contact committee member Gillian (Tel.01525 860539) for tickets or request tickets via our Contact page on this site.
