Demonstrator: Joyce Furssdonn
Her Title:  Ruby Thursday

It is forty years since Clophill & District Flower Club was formed and to celebrate the occasion a Ruby Anniversary dinner was held on the first Thursday evening of July.    Clophill Village Hall was filled with eighty members and invited guests, many wearing red and all in a party mood.  The Club has only had three Chairmen and they were all present along with the Area Chairman and Area President.

The tables were decorated with lovely table centres of red roses in large cocktail glasses and we were welcomed by two smart waiters serving Pimms.

Then came a delicious meal with a choice of Salmon, Ham and vegetable tarts with a variety of salads, followed by a selection of yummy desserts.  A super cake was made by one of our members which was served with a glass of sparkling rosé.

Over the years the Club has grown in numbers with classes to develop skills and opportunities to arrange for weddings, flower festivals and competitions.  We are a happy, friendly group of people who enjoy flowers.

Following the meal Joyce Furssdonn entertained us with a demonstration entitled 'Ruby Thursday'. She started with two black cocktail glasses filled with pink 'Aqua' roses and purple liatris. Her second arrangement was green based on a striking mirrored structure using 'Anastasia' chrysanthemums and green orchids. Number three was to depict Barbados where next year's World Show will be held. Joyce used Strelitzias and orange carnations with tropical foliage. Joyce produced a number of other arrangements to be included in the raffle.

She finished with a Ruby design with a red Perspex backing and appropriately a profusion of dark red roses.  We finished the evening with the free raffle and 17 happy members going away with delightful arrangements for their homes.

Do come to our meeting on September 1st when Gill McGregor will be demonstrating 'As Autumn approaches' and why not visit St. Mary's Church Clophill on the 17th and 18th September to enjoy our Flower Festival when we will be decorating the church with the theme '90 Glorious Years' celebrating HM The Queen’s life.
